Award–winning journalist Mina Kim to host the Friday broadcasts of Forum with Michael Krasny starting October 24.

KQED Public Radio announces listener favorite Mina Kim as the new Friday host for its popular morning program Forum with Michael Krasny. Currently, Kim anchors KQED News afternoon drive newscasts and produces extended newsmaker interviews and will continue in this role along with her Forum duties. For KQED, she has reported numerous high-profile pieces, including an exclusive feature on Ai WeiWei’s new exhibit, an investigative journalism piece on elderly abuse and a personal report on the day of the recent earthquake as a Napa resident.

Airing 9–11am on KQED 88.5 FM, Forum is the Bay Area’s most-listened-to morning program with 330,000 listeners on average per week. The award-winning live public affair program is hosted Monday through Thursday by Michael Krasny and presents balanced panel discussions of local, state, national and world issues as well as in-depth, one-on-one interviews with leading figures in politics, science, entertainment and the arts.

“Mina brings a great combination of smart journalism, deep curiosity about a range of topics, and wonderful charisma on air — all of which are essential to being a successful host,” said Daniel Zoll, senior editor of the award-winning morning show. “The Forum team is very excited to have Mina join us permanently after filling in as a guest host numerous times for the program and I look forward to working with her closely.”

“Mina started her journalism career at KQED and has become one of our shining stars on KQED Public Radio,” added Jo Anne Wallace. “She has proven herself to be a thoughtful interviewer and always strives to include in her stories the voices of those most affected by policies and adverse events. I cannot wait to see the perspective she’ll bring to Forum in this new assignment.”

Kim has spent the last 10 years working with public radio, beginning as a fellow with KQED’s Pacific Time and soon became the on-call producer for the show in 2007. As KQED began to expand its local news coverage, she became KQED’s full-time general assignment reporter in 2010. Kim was later named the PM anchor for KQED News in 2013.
