SAN FRANCISCO, CA — Snap Judgment co-founder and host Glynn Washington has been named to the inaugural class of the Aspen Institute’s Michael D. Eisner Arts & Culture Fellowship, a new program bringing together leading creative professionals to explore how the arts can meet this moment and help address some of society’s most urgent challenges.
The first Eisner Fellowship cohort reflects the full breadth and force of today’s creative landscape, including filmmakers, playwrights, choreographers, visual artists, muralists, publishers, podcasters, and leaders in arts education.
“I’m honored to be part of this inaugural cohort,” said Washington. “But more than that, I’m hungry for the exchange. Every artist I know is wrestling with the same question: what do we create in a time like this? What can our work challenge, reveal, heal, or make impossible to ignore?”
Washington created Snap Judgment with co-founder Mark Ristich in 2010. The weekly KQED storytelling program is now heard on NPR stations nationwide and was recently named by TIME Magazine as one of the “100 Best Podcasts of All Time.” An inductee of the Podcast Hall of Fame, Washington leads Snap Studios at KQED, producing acclaimed series including Spooked, Fire Escape, and Mind Your Own with Lupita Nyong’o.
Before founding Snap, Washington worked as an educator, diplomat, community activist, actor, and political strategist, experiences that continue to inform his singular approach to storytelling, leadership, and public media. He currently teaches media studies at San Quentin State Prison. Washington holds a law degree from the University of Michigan and studied at the Japan Center for Michigan Universities.
He is also known to fight dragons, drink tea, make music, and insists that his stories are served with cocktails.
