KQED Receives Seven Northern California Emmy® Awards

The KQED Arts and Culture "Dear Beloved" virtual event told the stories of three mothers who lost their children to gun violence, through music and storytelling.

KQED's haul includes three awards for Deep Look, as well as honors for Above the Noise and Check, Please! Bay Area and others

KQED was honored with seven Northern California Emmy® awards and five nominations from the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS). The 50th Emmy® ceremony, held on June 5, recognized excellence in all fields of television and online production.

The KQED Science team won three awards in the Environmental/Science-News and Short Form Content category with Deep Look, the online video series that gets up close to some of nature’s smallest creatures.

KQED Arts and Culture team was awarded in the Human Interest-Long Form Content category for Dear Beloved, a collaborative performance between hip-hop ensemble SOL Development and BE-IMAGINATIVE to tell the stories from three mothers who lost their loved ones from gun violence. KQED’s popular restaurant review series Check, Please! Bay Area won in the Lifestyle-Long Form Content category for an episode featuring cast members from the local production of the musical Hamilton.

KQED Education team received an Emmy® award for the Above the Noise’ episode, “What Does It Mean To Be Anti-Racist?” in the Politics/Government/Societal Concerns-News or Short Form Content category. The YouTube series for teens, cuts through the hype and dives deep into the research behind the issues affecting their daily lives series.

And finally, KQED’s Truly CA series was recognized for its episode, “Out on the Inside: Transgender Women Share Stories From a California Prison” in the Public Affairs Program category.
