Gov. Brown Announces Pension Reform Deal
Gov. Jerry Brown has announced what he calls a "radical change" to pensions for hundreds of thousands of public-sector workers. Brown says the controversial compromise deal hashed out over the last year could save state and local governments $18 billion to $30 billion over the next three decades. But the California Public Employees Retirement System may not be able to crunch the numbers until after lawmakers adjourn for the year -- after they've voted on the overhaul.

High Hopes for Sequoia National Monument Plan
Sequoia National Monument is home to roughly half of the giant sequoia trees left in the world. There's widespread agreement the ancient groves northeast of Bakersfield need help, but the question is what kind, exactly. Locals are waiting on a new management plan from the U.S. Forest Service.
