S.F. Civil Grand Jury Targets Port
A Civil Grand Jury report released this week criticizes the Port of San Francisco for its management of the scenic waterfront. It names several high-profile projects that have made waves, including America's Cup and the Washington Street development proposal. It also says the mayor's office has too much influence and that insufficient opportunity for public review contributed to recent Port development failures.

Anthony Friedkin: The Gay Essay
Next weekend marks the 45th anniversary of the Stonewall riots in New York City, the spark that touched off the Gay Liberation movement. As the LGBT community prepares to celebrate "Pride Week" in San Francisco, the de Young Museum presents a new photography exhibit of Anthony Friedkin's work, "The Gay Essay." Friedkin captured provocative black and white images of queer life in San Francisco and L.A. in the late 1960s and early 70s, when homosexuality was still illegal in California. It took more than 40 years for Friedkin's project to get a full public exhibition. Scott Shafer reports.
