President Trump is repeating false claims about the popular vote in the November election. The final vote count showed that Democrat Hillary Clinton received nearly 3 million more votes than Trump, who won the presidency by virtue of narrow victories in Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania.

Trump has insisted, without citing any evidence, that he would have beaten Clinton in the popular tally, too, except for the participation of millions of undocumented immigrants who voted for Clinton.

Among those not buying Trump's claim: Speaker of the House Paul Ryan, R-Wisconsin. Ryan told The Associated Press, "I've already commented on that. I've seen no evidence to that effect."

Another Republican, Pennsylvania Rep. Charlie Dent, said Trump needs to move on. "The election is over," Dent said, and Trump "won fair and square." Trump needs to "get to the serious business of governing," Dent said.

Here's coverage of Trump's latest claims, which he first made in November:

New York Times: Trump repeats lie about popular vote in meeting with lawmakers: President Trump used his first official meeting with congressional leaders on Monday to falsely claim that millions of unauthorized immigrants had robbed him of a popular vote majority, a return to his obsession with the election’s results even as he seeks support for his legislative agenda. Washington Post: Without evidence, Trump tells lawmakers 3 million to 5 million illegal ballots cost him the popular vote: Days after being sworn in, President Trump insisted to congressional leaders invited to a reception at the White House that he would have won the popular vote had it not been for millions of illegal votes, according to people familiar with the meeting. Trump has repeatedly claimed, without evidence, that widespread voter fraud caused him to lose the popular vote to Hillary Clinton, even while he clinched the presidency with an electoral college victory. Two people familiar with the meeting said Trump spent about 10 minutes at the start of the bipartisan gathering rehashing the campaign. He also told them that between 3 million and 5 million illegal votes caused him to lose the popular vote. Read full story.

Breitbart: Ryan breaks with Trump's claim on immigrant vote: Breaking with President Donald Trump, Speaker Paul Ryan says he has seen no evidence that 3 million to 5 million immigrants living in the U.S. illegally voted last November and cost the Republican the popular vote. Read full story.
