KQED continues to be the destination for unbiased and fact-based coverage for the 2012 National Election. Veteran journalists Gwen Ifill and Judy Woodruff start the election season off with their coverage of the 2012 Republican Convention in Tampa, FL. Elections might be right around the corner, but there is still plenty of time for some great music in August! From the Beatles to the beloved child star Jackie Evancho, there is something for every music lover on KQED. And this August marks the 50th anniversary of Marilyn Monroe's passing, so KQED celebrates this Hollywood icon with an encore presentation of the American Masters documentary about her life and career. Here are the highlights from August on KQED Public Television:

The Ed Sullivan Show Saturday, August 11, at 9pm on KQED 9         
ED SULLIVAN’S TOP PERFORMERS 1966-1969 (MY MUSIC)
In the late sixties, The Ed Sullivan Show was the world’s most important stage. This new My Music special features 1960s most sought-after acts, including the U.S. television debut of the Beatles and the Doors’ infamous one-time-only appearance. Other performers include The Mamas & the Papas, The Rolling Stones, Johnny Rivers, The Beach Boys, Tom Jones and Creedence Clearwater Revival.

PBS CONVENTION COVERAGE — A NEWSHOUR SPECIAL REPORT
Nightly gavel to gavel coverage of the 2012 Republican National Convention from Tampa, FL. Veteran journalists Gwen Ifill and Judy Woodruff anchor complete live coverage of the Republican national political convention, from the opening gavel to its official close. Between speeches and events on the convention floor, Ifill and Woodruff interview political newsmakers and solicit analysis and perspective from NewsHour regulars Shields and Brooks, presidential historians and others.

The little girl with a big voice returns with a special showcasing the great songs from the silver screen. Recorded in the movie palace splendor of Los Angeles’s Orpheum Theater, Jackie puts her own unique stamp on such audience favorites as “My Heart Will Go On” (Titanic), “Some Enchanted Evening” (South Pacific), “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” (The Lion King), “Pure Imagination” (Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory), “When She Loved Me” (Toy Story 2) and many more.

AMERICAN MASTERS: MARILYN MONROE: STILL LIFE

This acclaimed episode of American Masters receives an encore presentation to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Monroe’s passing. She might have died 40 years ago, but Monroe’s body of work — from her films to the iconic photographs — keep her in the limelight even today. Luminaries such as Norman Mailer, Gloria Steinem and Hugh Heffner speak about the infectious charisma of this singular woman.
