What:
Les Misérables was one of the most popular stage shows of all time, but even timeless lyrics can be forgotten. Now KQED Public Television viewers can add their voices to the music with the Les Misérables 25th Anniversary Concert at the O2 Sing-a-Long. KQED will air the popular concert during its fundraising drive on Wednesday, June 1 at 7:30pm with a display of the lyrics so viewers can follow along with the cast performing Victor Hugo’s classic story. As a leading station of innovation, KQED is the first public television station to invite viewers to participate in the popular concert special.
No one could have guessed on October 8, 1985 when Les Misérables opened in London at the Barbican Theatre that it would become a worldwide phenomenon. But audiences embraced it from the start, creating a “people’s musical” that has played in 42 countries and been seen by nearly 60 million people. In 2010, the legendary musical celebrated its 25th birthday and to mark the occasion, producer Cameron Mackintosh staged an extraordinary concert at the O2 Arena in London. Les Misérables 25th Anniversary Concert at the O2 features more than 500 actors and musicians — including Alfie Boe, Nick Jonas, Norm Lewis, Matt Lucas, Lea Salonga, Jenny Galloway and Katie Hall — and includes the casts of the long-running Original Production at London’s Queen’s Theatre and members of the Original 1985 London cast.
