If you're doing any traveling this weekend, a Central Valley flood alert from the National Weather Service:

...EXTENDED PERIOD OF VERY WET CONDITIONS STARTING THIS WEEKEND CONTINUING THROUGH MID WEEK NEXT WEEK...

...URBAN AND SMALL STREAM FLOODING POSSIBLE THIS WEEKEND...
MULTIPLE PACIFIC STORMS WILL IMPACT THE REGION TOMORROW THROUGH THE MIDDLE OF NEXT WEEK.

THESE STORMS WILL BRING HEAVY RAINFALL ACROSS THE CENTRAL VALLEY AND SIERRA FOOTHILLS...AND VERY HEAVY SNOWFALL TO THE HIGH SIERRA.

THE CENTRAL VALLEY COULD SEE 3 TO 5 INCHES OF RAINFALL TOMORROW THROUGH THE MIDDLE OF NEXT WEEK. RAINFALL AMOUNTS WILL LIKELY EXCEED 6 INCHES IN THE FOOTHILLS AND SHASTA RIVER DRAINAGE. AT THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS... NEW SNOWFALL ACCUMULATIONS OF SEVERAL FEET ARE EXPECTED. SNOW LEVELS WILL VARY BETWEEN 3500 AND 4500 FEET FOR THE NORTHERN MOUNTAINS. SNOW LEVELS OVER THE SIERRA ALONG
INTERSTATE 80 ARE EXPECTED TO RANGE BETWEEN 5000 TO 7000 FEET.

FURTHER SOUTH...SNOW LEVELS WILL BE HIGHER. AREAS OF URBAN AND SMALL STREAM FLOODING ARE LIKELY WITH THE FIRST WAVE OF THESE STORMS THIS WEEKEND. THIS FIRST WAVE WILL ALSO PRODUCE MODERATE RISES ON VALLEY RIVERS. OVERFLOW INTO THE SUTTER BYPASS AT COLUSA AND TISDALE WEIRS IS EXPECTED SATURDAY.

AT THIS TIME...NO FLOODING IS EXPECTED ON MAIN STEM RIVERS INCLUDING THE SACRAMENTO AND LOWER SAN JOAQUIN RIVER SYSTEMS. AS THE RAIN PATTERN EVOLVES AFTER THIS WEEKEND...THE EXACT PATH AND STRENGTH OF ADDITIONAL STORMS IS UNCERTAIN.

HOWEVER...IF ADDITIONAL HEAVY RAIN MANIFESTS OVER THESE SAME AREAS THE FLOODING POTENTIAL WILL INCREASE. ANYONE WITH INTERESTS AROUND RIVERS OR CREEKS SHOULD MONITOR THIS DEVELOPING SITUATION AND TAKE APPROPRIATE ACTIONS.
