Gov. Jerry Brown has announced what he calls a "radical change" to pensions for hundreds of thousands of public-sector workers. Brown says the controversial compromise deal hashed out over the last year could save state and local governments $18 billion to $30 billion over the next three decades. But the California Public Employees Retirement System may not be able to crunch the numbers until after lawmakers adjourn for the year -- after they've voted on the overhaul.
