The U.S. Supreme Court meets Friday to consider whether to take up Proposition 8, California's ban on same-sex marriage. Two lower federal courts have struck down Prop. 8. The measure's backers are asking the Supreme Court to reverse those decisions. The court is also considering several cases -- including one in California -- where federal courts have struck down the Defense of Marriage Act, or DOMA.
