Tuesday, Oakland's City Council considers moving forward with a project to link surveillance cameras, license-plate readers and other data into a unified "situational awareness" tool for local and regional law enforcement. The Port of Oakland is already doing it. But does the proposal constitute a crime-fighting solution, or is it a classic example of mission creep? Less Emphasis on Test Scores in New Funding Formula
The Legislative Analyst's Office has just released a brief on the rollout of the new local control funding formula for K-12 schools. Beginning this year, districts with large numbers of at-risk students will get more state funding. But now they’ll have to show improvement in multiple areas, not just testing.
