Kashkari to Challenge Brown for Governor in November
Governor Jerry Brown will face off against Neel Kashkari in California's general election in November. Debut of Top-Two Primary Delivers Familiar Results
Tuesday's primary was the first election to use the top-two system for statewide races. That could have meant two candidates from the same party facing off against each other in the fall. But in all partisan statewide races, both major parties secured a spot on the November ballot.

Veteran Democrats Advance in Top Congressional Races
In the heavily Democratic 33rd District in Southern California, progressive stalwart Henry Waxman is retiring after 40 years. In a surprise upset, a Republican landed the most votes: Elan Carr. In the 11th District, rival Democrats kindly stepped aside for state senator Mark DeSaulniers' bid to replace outgoing Representative George Miller in the East Bay. In the 17th District, hugging Silicon Valley, Congressman Mike Honda won 48 percent of the vote, but he faces a tough run in November against another Democrat, Ro Khanna.

Voters Approve Both Statewide Propositions
California now has the go-ahead to sell $600 million in bonds for affordable rental housing for low-income veterans, authorized by Proposition 41. Prop. 42 requires local governments to pay for fulfilling requests for local public records.
