A beloved sci-fi and fantasy bookstore on a trendy street in San Francisco's Mission district recently announced it was closing shop. The owner of Borderlands Books pointed to a recent increase of the city's minimum wage as the reason. Customers urged Borderlands to try a sponsorship model, and to the surprise of its owner more than 300 people signed up. Now, the store will stay open.
