Porter Ranch Gas Leak Prompts Relocation Efforts
A whole lot of people from Porter Ranch north of Los Angeles will be spending Thanksgiving in temporary housing. That's because of a persistent underground natural gas leak that's been fouling the air for over a month. Officials say there's no risk of explosion -- but the stomach-turning odor that's added to the gas is causing a variety of health problems.

A new report finds that California school principals and teachers are changing the way they discipline students. Researchers at UCLA's Civil Rights Project found that kids are getting suspended less -- and that might mean those students are doing better in school.

San Jose School Bets Its Future on Project-Based Learning
It used to be that teachers stood at the front of class, and students did most of their work independently, at their desks. But there's a new push in California public schools to get students learning from each other through creative and challenging hands-on activities. It's called project-based learning. Yesterday, we met a teacher who's blazing a trail at Benicia Unified, north of Oakland. Today we head to San Jose, where an entire school is betting its academic future on this approach.
