Oakland's been the birthplace for a lot of movements for social change over the years. In fact, the Black Panther Party for Self Defense celebrates its 50th anniversary this month. When it began in Oakland in the 1960s, the party wanted to tackle police brutality and racial discrimination. Sound familiar? These days, Bay Area artists are riffing off the Panthers' legacy to create art aimed at inspiring a modern day revolution.
