The trial of three hikers arrested by Iran for illegally entering the country and spying is set to resume on May 11. UC Berkeley graduates Shane Bauer and Josh Fattal have been imprisoned by Iran for nearly two years after being picked up while hiking in Iraq Kurdistan. Their companion, Sarah Shourd, was released on bail of $500,000 last September, but the country wants her to return to stand trial as well.
On Friday at U.N. Plaza in San Francisco, supporters of the imprisoned Americans staged a performance piece meant to dramatize the day-to-day conditions under which they are being held.
Reporter Kyung Jin Lee says that about 20 people showed up in support, including Shourd, who is engaged to Bauer.
