AC Transit and the Amalgamated Transit Union Local 192 have agreed to a tentative labor contract. The ATU leadership, which represents the agency’s 1,625 bus operators and mechanics, will present the tentative agreement to its members on Saturday.

The announcement was made in a statement from Clarence Johnson, AC Transit's media affairs manager, as well as on the ATU Facebook page, which said:

Dear Brothers and Sisters,
On day 58, of the 60-day cooling off period, ATU Local 192 and AC Transit District reached a new tentative agreement (TA) today. The ATU Local 192 Executive Board unanimously recommends taking the new TA to the membership for a vote. Details of the new TA will be released to members at tomorrow's (Saturday's) meeting 10am until 12pm. We will work as usual following expiration of cooling off period ending 11:59pm December 22nd. Your ATU 192 Executive Board members discussed in detail the areas of improvement and unanimously agreed that this TA should be recommended to you for your sincere consideration. A 60-day cooling off period was set to end this Sunday.

Union leaders and district management earlier this year reached two contract deals, but both were rejected by a vote of the union rank and file.

AC Transit provides about 181,000 daily trips and 52.6 million trips annually to riders.

Stay tuned for details.
