The Environmental Protection Agency is targeting California's tougher fuel efficiency standards, leading Gov. Jerry Brown to vow the state would "fight this stupidity in every conceivable way possible."

Started under the scandal-plagued former EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt, the rollback would freeze national fuel efficiency standards at 35 miles-per-gallon and challenge California's tougher mandates.

If the Trump administration proposal goes into effect, it would eliminate much higher Obama-era fuel efficiency standards.
