Hundreds of immigrant rights supporters across the nation protested this week to highlight a California civil rights case where they say the U.S. Justice Department is dragging its feet. The case involves a Mexican man caught trying to cross the border illegally. He died after U.S. border agents repeatedly zapped him with an electronic taser gun. Traditional Hmong Healers Learning to Partner With Valley Doctors
Thousands of Hmong refugees settled in the Central Valley in the 1970s and like most immigrants, they brought their own traditions with them. Back home, the Hmong were more likely to see a shaman than a doctor when they got sick and that has presented something of a challenge for health care professionals here in California. A hospital in Merced is addressing that with a program called "Partners in Healing."
