California Women Express Concerns About Health Care Under a Trump Administration
President-elect Donald Trump's Inauguration Day will not be celebrated by many Californians. California has emerged as a leader in the movement to challenge the incoming administration, on issues like climate change and immigration. And there's also a lot of concern from California women about policies that impact their health, especially access to birth control and abortion. We sent a team of reporters out to talk to women across the state.

Letters to the Next President
Young people have also been vocal about how a new president could impact issues like birth control and abortion. Kristin, an eighth grader at Campbell Middle School near San Jose, opposes abortion, and she's written another in our series of letters to the next President from California teens.

Pussyhat Project Knits Symbol of Solidarity for Women's March
Thousands of women, including a large contingent from California, are expected to converge on the nation's capital next weekend for the Women's March on Washington, the day after President-elect Trump's inauguration. And many of those women will be wearing bright pink hats, with pussycat ears. As KQED's Tena Rubio explains, it's a symbol of solidarity that started at an L.A. knitting shop.

Merced Sheriff's Posse Will Be Riding High at Inauguration
There are a lot of protests planned both in California and in D.C. on President-elect Trump's Inauguration Day. But there are also a handful of Californians participating in the inauguration festivities, including one group that's heading to D.C. with 14 horses in tow. The Merced County Sheriff's Posse has been riding in style since the 1940s.

San Diego Students Bring California Sound to Washington
There's also a group of high school musicians, singers and dancers from San Diego heading to Washington next week. They're performing at a special inaugural luncheon to highlight California's role on the national stage. It's a non-partisan event put on by the California State Society. We dropped in at a rehearsal with kids from the San Diego School of Creative and Performing Arts, or SCPA.

A New Art Exhibit You Have to SCUBA to See
Artist Doug Aitken's new series of sculptures just off the coast of the town of Avalon, on Catalina Island, is called "Underwater Pavilions." It explores environmental threats to the ocean. KCRW's Eric Drachman made the journey to see it in person, and brings us along on his adventure.
