Jacques Pépin launched his long television career at KQED with a series called “Today’s Gourmet” and has since starred in almost a dozen other cooking shows at KQED. Now, a new American Masters documentary, Jacques Pépin: The Art of Craft, explores Pépin’s love of cooking and how he has helped change cooking in America. He talks with KQED Newsroom about why he chose to work for the burgeoning Howard Johnson's food chain instead of cooking for the Kennedy White House, his long friendship with Julia Child and his idea of a perfect meal.
