The Pakistani government has agreed to enforce Islamic law in a northwest region of the country as part of a peace deal with Taliban insurgents. Locals in the region, the Swat Valley, greeted the news with jubilation, but the deal was criticized by U.S. officials and some Pakistanis who fear the spread of strict Islamic law.
