In the run-up to the war in Iraq, a lot of attention was given to the plight of Iraqi women. In the first half hour, we talk with author Nadje Al-Ali about the state of women’s rights in Iraq six years later. In the second half hour, we turn to a new UC Berkeley study showing that when people learn about research findings that challenge their own beliefs on controversial topics, they’re likely to doubt the results and assume the researcher is biased.
Guests:
Nadje Al-Ali, author of "What Kind of Liberation?", founding member of Act Together: Women's Action on Iraq and chair of the Centre for Gender Studies at the School of Oriental and African Studies at the University of London
Robert MacCoun, professor of public policy, law and psychology at UC Berkeley whose study on perceptions of bias in policy research will be published in the February issue of "Political Psychology"
