The U.S. needs to recognize that its massive military involvement in the Middle East has been a failure, says historian and retired Army colonel Andrew Bacevich. In his new book “America’s War for the Greater Middle East,” Bacevich examines the history of that involvement. He argues that America has fallen far short on goals such as promoting peace, democracy and human rights, at great cost to itself and other nations. We talk to Bacevich about the book, and his proposed alternative strategies for engaging in the troubled region.
