In the age of Beyonce, #YesAllWomen and Hillary Clinton’s presidential run, it’s tempting to say that feminism is thriving. But Andi Zeisler, co-founder of Bitch Media, is worried that the political movement has turned into what she calls, “marketplace feminism,” full of “empowertising.” In her new book, “We Were Feminists Once,” Zeisler argues that modern feminism is less about beliefs and identity and more about products and celebrities. Zeisler joins Forum to discuss the commercialization of feminism and what it means for women.
