Twenty Afghani civilians have been killed in bombings in the last two weeks, and the United Nations has pulled some of its personnel out of Kandahar and other southern cities citing safety concerns. Violence has been on the rise in Afghanistan since the U.S. and NATO announced that, in June, they would begin the largest military action in that country since the war began nine years ago.
