The Bayview is a rapidly developing neighborhood, as we wrote last week, and with those changes comes a good deal of concern: that original residents will be pushed out, and with them will go the community’s character.

BayviewLIVE, a free, daylong block party that took place on Saturday, Oct. 22, aimed to celebrate the neighborhood amid this transition with hip-hop — including headliner Jidenna and local rapper-activist Equipto — alongside graffiti, DJs and more. Festival founder and community organizer Tyra Fennell told KQED Arts she estimates more than 2,000 people attended over the course of the day.

Photographer L. Herrada-Rios was on the scene; here’s a taste of what she saw.
