The International Astronautical Congress gathered in Australia last week with sessions on nano-satellites and a talk called “50 Ways to Leave Your Earth.”

Billionaire inventor Elon Musk was there to taut one way to get off our home planet—a rocket his company SpaceX is developing.

Musk said the Mars rocket will be ready to launch in 2022. We look at how realistic that plan is:
