Voters in Irvine, Tustin and elsewhere in Orange County's Third District head to the polls today to elect their representative to the county Board of Supervisors. Orange County was hit hard with a blue wave in November and today's election is a test on whether that will trickle down to local races.

California Democrat Introduces New DREAM Act
A California Democrat is introducing a new bill in Congress this morning would grant a pathway to citizenship to an estimated 2 million people across the country.

This week, more than a hundred people in Stockton will receive $500 debit cards -- no strings attached. It will be their second cash infusion since the city began an experiment last month. They're testing whether offering Stockton residents a guaranteed income for the next year and a half can alleviate poverty. A quarter of the city's population lives in poverty.

Raking to Prevent Wildfires? Yep, It's Happening
Mountain communities near San Bernardino have seen their share of wildfires in recent years. The worst was the Holcomb Fire, which scorched more than 1500 acres near Big Bear in 2017. Officials say past fires may provide some protection against future ones, but there’s something else the Forest Service is doing.

Doctors have also been unhappy with an attempt to deal with the opioid crisis. The Death Certificate Project tracks doctors who may be responsible for over-prescribing medications and now the state is rethinking its approach.
