From weather forecasters to Transportation Security Administration agents to air traffic controllers, the partial federal government shutdown is taking an increasing toll around the Bay Area.

San Francisco air traffic controller Frederick Naujoks told KQED that because they are not getting paid during the shutdown, some of his co-workers "want to work for Lyft or Uber, in addition to coming to work and working air traffic."

Federal government workers held a protest on Capitol Hill, and the New York Times reported that a church in North Carolina organized a food bank for TSA workers.
