Amid chaos and confusion, hundreds of migrant parents separated from their children under the Trump administration’s zero tolerance policy will not be reunited by Thursday’s court-ordered deadline.
Federal lawyers said that over 700 parents were “ineligible” to be reunited with their children for a variety of reasons.
Those reasons range from the fact that hundreds of parents have already been deported, to parents waiving their right to rejoin their children.
The American Civil Liberties Union argued in court that deportations must be delayed a week once families are reunited to give them time to discuss their case with legal counsel.
