A federal judge on Wednesday agreed to let a lawsuit challenging the Trump administration’s practice of separating migrant families at the border proceed, saying the conduct “shocks the conscience.”

Hundreds of children have been separated from their parents as a result of the Trump administration’s “zero tolerance” policy, even those who are claiming asylum.

The following day, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) announced a deal with the Federal Bureau of Prisons to use federal prisons to house 1,600 ICE detainees — 1,000 of them in Victorville.

A former ICE official in the Obama administration pointed out that “large percent of ICE detainees have no criminal record and are more vulnerable in a prison setting.”
