The U.S. Department of Justice demanded records and threatened to subpoena sanctuary cities, with Attorney General Jeff Sessions issuing a statement saying "enough is enough."

The Justice Department issued letters to 23 different jurisdictions this week, requesting (under threat of subpoena) documents relating to local "sanctuary city" policies.

California officials received nine of the letters, with San Francisco Mayor Mark Farrell receiving a letter on his first day on the job.
