Kathryn Steinle’s tragic death began as a local murder but quickly became a national controversy repeatedly invoked on the campaign trail by President Trump.

This crime continues to shape the immigration and sanctuary city debate today.

Next week, Jose Ines Garcia Zarate will be on trial for murder at the San Francisco Hall of Justice.
