San Joaquin County crews have stabilized a breached levee and at least temporarily halted the leak, but an evacuation order remained in place Tuesday morning.
Forecasters say a flash flood warning also remains in effect.
The levee break along the San Joaquin River prompted an evacuation order Monday for about 500 people living on mainly ranch and farm land near Manteca. Officials are pointing residents to the Lathrop Community Center as an evacuation center. The county is updating a map of road and lane closure information.
The downpours swelled watercourses that already teetered near or above flood levels and left about half of the state under flood, wind and snow advisories.
