One of three defendants charged with the murders last year of a Canadian tourist in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park and a therapist on a Marin County trail pleaded guilty Monday to one count of second-degree murder.

Sean Angold, 24, entered the guilty plea as part of an agreement in which he agreed to testify at the trials of co-defendants Lila Scott Alligood, 18, and Morrison Lampley, 23.

All three were charged with the fatal shootings of Audrey Carey, 23, of St.-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec, on Oct. 2 in Golden Gate Park and therapist Steve Carter, 67, in the Loma Alta Open Space Preserve near Fairfax on Oct. 5. The criminal complaint in the case identifies Lampley as the shooter in both killings.

The three defendants have been widely described as drifters and transients. They were arrested in Portland just a few days after the killings, allegedly while trying to swap Carter's stolen Volkswagen Jetta station wagon for drugs.

Angold will be sentenced to 15 years to life in prison at the conclusion of the trials, said Marin County District Attorney Edward Berberian. The district attorney's office announced in March it will not seek the death penalty against the defendants. Alligood and Lampley face life in prison without parole if they are convicted.

The murder charges include special circumstance allegations of committing multiple murders, lying in wait and killing during the commission of a robbery.

The defendants' preliminary hearing is scheduled to start next Monday. It's unknown if Angold's plea will delay that proceeding.
