The recently-opened Yoshi’s nightclub in San Francisco’s Fillmore neighborhood is intended to be the centerpiece of a new jazz district. Can the magic of the Fillmore’s musical heyday in the 1940s and 50s be recreated? Forum talks with veterans of that era.

Frank Jackson, a musician who moved to the Fillmore in 1942 and the first local jazz musician invited to perform at the new Yoshi's on Fillmore. Jackson has played with Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Charlie Parker and John Coltrane.

Leola King, former owner of the popular Blue Mirror jazz club on Fillmore which she opened in the early 1950s.

John Handy, a Grammy-nominated former member of Charles Mingus' band who came to San Francisco in 1948 and played at various Fillmore clubs.

John Coppola, a former member of several Fillmore club house bands who played with Henry Mancini, Woody Herman and Frank Kenton.
