“If you want to understand a place, ignore the boasting monuments and landmarks, and go straight to the haunted houses.” So writes author Colin Dickey, who grew up near San Jose’s Winchester Mystery House, often dubbed “America’s Most Haunted House.” His long fascination with the place led him to a deep exploration of the stories and meanings behind haunted locations across America, which he chronicles in his new book “Ghostland.” We talk with Dickey about the secret histories of America’s most notoriously haunted places.
