Description

Step into a space where hair becomes story, memory, and living connection. This event invites you to explore the deep cultural significance of braiding across Latine, African, and Indigenous traditions—where each strand carries history, identity, and care.

Across generations and continents, braiding has served as more than adornment. It is a language of belonging, a map of lineage, and an act of resistance and creativity. From intricate patterns that once signaled community and status, to intimate moments of bonding between elders and youth, these practices continue to root us in ancestral knowledge while evolving in modern expression.

Through storytelling, shared dialogue, and optional hands-on adornment experiences, participants are invited to engage with these traditions in a way that is respectful, inclusive, and grounded in cultural appreciation.
