Live This Month: March 2011

As South by Southwest approaches later in March, bands are hitting the road, crisscrossing the US before converging on Austin. What this means for Bay Area music fans is a ton of buzz-backed touring bands will stop in SF, and equally promising locals will play a few final shows before heading out on the road. Enjoy this mix and then go check out some shows!

About the bands:

PS I Love You (“2012”) are a spirited noise pop duo from Kingston, Ontario. The band’s tour with Diamond Rings arrives at the Rickshaw Stop on March 7. A B & The Sea opens.

SF’s Nodzzz (“Time [What’s It Going to Do]”) is about to head out on a European tour with The Mantles. Before that, the band will be at The Knockout on March 2 with Personal & The Pizzas and Tim Cohen’s Magic Trick. OC/LA/SF band Moonhearts (“I Said”) are one of the many great garage bands playing at the Burger Boogaloo festival later this month. Catch them at El Rincon on March 25 with Strange Boys, Ty Segall and many more.

Local surf punks The Traditional Fools (“Davey Crockett”) are reuniting for a show at the Burger Boogaloo. They’ll be at Thee Parkside on March 26, with Audacity, Culture Kids and several more bands.

The Sandwitches (“Lightfoot”) celebrate the release of their new full length, Mrs. Jones’ Cookies, at the Make-Out Room on March 6. Also performing are Suicide Dragons and Carletta Sue Kay.

Wye Oak‘s (“Civilian”) new album, Civilian, comes out next week on Merge Records. Callers and Sands round out the bill at Bottom of the Hill on March 25.

Local artist Ash Reiter (“Paper Diamonds”) will be releasing a new 7″ this month, with a new album coming later this year. See her, Wave Array, and Buckeye Knoll at Cafe Du Nord on March 10.

Toro Y Moi‘s (“Still Sound”) new album, Underneath the Pine, is receiving widespread critical acclaim. Chaz Bundick and band will be at the Great American Music Hall on March 24, with Cloud Nothings supporting.

Oakland’s Jordan Dalrymple (“Subtle/13 & God”) is about to release his debut album as Antonionian (“Into the Night”). He’ll be joined by fellow Anticon collective members Doseone and Jel at the Rickshaw Stop on March 23.

LA disco pop duo Kisses (“Kisses”) have a new single, “Midnight Lover,” out now. They’ll be at the Rickshaw Stop on March 8, with Altars and The Actors.

Native Speaker is the debut album from Montreal’s Braids (“Lemonade”). The group’s North American tour hits the Rickshaw Stop on March 4 (TONIGHT), with Baths and Gobble Gobble.
