<pHorses That Buck is the story of Bill Smith, a Wyoming cowboy, and the transformation of his world, the frontier West. Born in 1941, Smith grew up poor in a Montana mining town and left home in the late 1950’s to make a life in the rodeo. With not much talent but a lot of “want-to,” he broke more than a few bones, burned through a marriage, and rose through the ranks — earning thirteen trips to the National Finals and three World Championships — to become one of the greatest bronc riders of all time. Facing retirement in the late 1970’s, Smith learned a new way to ride and train gentle horses, creating a second career for himself as one of the country’s best horsemen.
