In the short story “Imeldific,” a cohort of the dethroned first lady, Imelda Marcos, goes nuts in the aftermath of her heroine’s downfall. Her daughter reflects with grim irony on the perils of life for women with bouffant hairdos in a newly emerging democracy.

“Imeldific” was included in the anthology Juncture: 25 Very Good Stories and 12 Excellent Drawings edited by Lara Stapleton and Veronica Gonzalez, and published by Soft Skull books. This book was part of the Juncture project, a large-scale arts collaboration, featuring stories, drawings and songs. The project includes work by Carl Hancock Rux, Jonathan Lethem, Colson Whitehead, Heather McGown, Jorge Pardo, Vernon Reid and DJ Spooky. Drawings and songs are based on the stories.
