The City of Oakland has announced its hotly anticipated homecoming party for Olympic gold medalist Alysa Liu. The celebration gets underway at noon on Thursday, March 12, at Frank Ogawa Plaza in downtown Oakland.

As one of the rare uniting sources of joy 2026, Liu is expected to draw a huge hometown crowd. The event takes place just around the corner from Oakland Ice Center, Liu’s home rink and training ground, and two miles from a recently completed mural of the figure skating icon.

Admission is free for the celebration, but an RSVP to the event is required for entry. Reservations can be made here, and are limited to two per person. Doors will open at 9 a.m. for the noontime program.

Liu herself will appear at the event and address the crowd, according to organizers.

Many Oakland residents had anticipated a parade, similar to the Warriors parades of the last decade. But “at Alysa’s request, she chose not to have a parade,” organizers say. “Instead, she asked for a celebration that shines a light on Oakland’s vibrant community and talented local artists.”
