Last week, Outside Lands hinted that the festival was ending its ten-year streak of no female headliners by posting a photo of Janet Jackson on social media. And today, it’s confirmed that Jackson is indeed topping this year’s bill, along with indie rockers Florence and the Machine and R&B hitmaker the Weeknd. (A welcome departure from last year’s more nostalgic, male-dominated bill, which featured The Who, Metallica, and Gorillaz in the top spots.)

Bay Area festivals like Outside Lands, Treasure Island, and Noise Pop have traditionally been the domains of the indie rock scene, but all three fests have been featuring hip-hop and R&B more prominently in their booking the past few years.

This year’s edition of Outside Lands, taking place Aug. 10-12 at Golden Gate Park, is perhaps the most hip-hop-forward yet, with sets from chart-toppers Future and N.E.R.D.; local favorites SOB x RBE and Caleborate; and rising stars GoldLink and Lizzo. Other sets to look forward to include electronic auteur James Blake; a solo performance by Jamie XX; indie favorites Mac Demarco and Chicano Batman; and cult pop icon Carly Rae Jepsen.

Check out the full lineup here and in the flyer below.
