Did The Shape of Water rekindle your cinematic interest in things not quite human, not quite animal — or perhaps awaken new desires? If so, take heed: the second annual Bigfoot Bonanza, a conference and film festival at San Francisco’s Vogue Theatre, is just days away.
On March 10 and 11, two jam-packed days of cult classic bigfoot and yeti flicks screen alongside documentaries and guest speakers like cryptozoologist Loren Coleman. (Coleman defines cryptozoology as the “study of hidden animals”; Wikipedia defines it as a pseudoscience.)
Titles include films like The Legend of Boggy Creek, The Abominable Snow Rabbit (animated!) and Man Beast.
Closing out the fest is the 1977 Italian monster film Yeti: Giant of the 20th Century, directed by Gianfranco Parolini and described by one reviewer as “challengingly budgeted,” but “terrific fun.” Not only is the ancient yeti recently thawed out, he’s enormous, kind of like someone watched Dino De Laurentiis’ 1976 King Kong and decided to rip it off with a disco-tinged soundtrack.
