Fantastic Negrito Makes Music About Our Times and Troubles

Fantastic Negrito plays an all too rare local gig at the UC Theatre Oct. 14, 2017 (Emily Sevin)

Oakland's Fantastic Negrito makes music we can all believe in, songs about uniting people and resisting hate. He's just issued a video for “Push Back” a new song on the re-release of his 2016 album The Last Days of Oakland. It lets Negrito take on the enemy: stress, anxiety and fear, and people who “want to build a wall / but that won’t help at all.” He won a Grammy last year for best blues album, but success hasn't spoiled him a bit. We just wish he'd play gigs in the Bay Area more often. For his show Saturday, Oct. 14 at the UC Theatre, find details here.
