San Francisco’s loss is Atlanta’s gain.
Gennadi Nedvigin, a principal dancer with San Francisco Ballet, will take over August 1 as artistic director at Atlanta Ballet, replacing outgoing director John McFall.
Nedvigin, 39, is Russian and trained at the Bolshoi School. He joined SF Ballet as a soloist in 1997. SF Ballet announced today that Nedvigin’s final performance will take place sometime during the company’s run of Onegin, which begins April 30.
“Gennadi is an incredibly talented dancer who—after 19 years with the company—is still performing at a very high level and I am very proud of him,” SF Ballet Artistic Director Helgi Tomasson said in a statement. “I have no doubt that his professionalism, coupled with his passion and respect for the art form will make him a wonderful leader for Atlanta Ballet.”
