KQED’s signature fundraising event highlights the achievements of some of the most accomplished women currently living and working in the Bay Area.
This year’s panel discussion on Gender Parity in Politics will be moderated by Mina Kim, KQED News evening anchor and host of Friday Forum.

Marybel Batjer
Secretary, California Government Operations Agency
Marybel Batjer is a nationally recognized transformative change leader. As Secretary of the California Government Operations Agency (CalGovOps), she has delivered innovative approaches to modernizing statewide services in the areas of procurement, real estate, information technology, and human resources. In 2013, Governor Edmund G. Brown, Jr. appointed Batjer to serve as the first-ever Secretary of the newly formed agency as part of a comprehensive overhaul of state government. Most recently, she was named the Chair of the California Complete Count Committee (Census 2020). Batjer’s policy expertise positioned her as advisor to high-level leaders in both the public and private sectors. She has advised C-suite leaders within the world’s largest gaming-entertainment company. She held senior leadership posts in the executive branches of two state governments, as well as key advisory roles in two US presidential administrations and at the Pentagon. Batjer received her bachelor’s degree from Mills College in California and studied international public policy at the graduate level at Johns Hopkins University. She also studied national and international security at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government.
Anne Moses, Ph.D.
President & Founder, IGNITE
Anne Moses has 20+ years’ experience in social justice and political organizations across the non-profit, political, and academic sectors with a focus on women and girls. In 2010, Anne founded IGNITE, a nationally recognized 501c3 that is building a movement of women who are ready and eager to become the next generation of political leaders. IGNITE has grown rapidly to become the largest and most diverse young women’s political leadership program in the country, training 10,000+ young women a year. Anne's previous senior leadership positions as Chief Operating Officer for Emerge America and Majority Council Director for EMILY’s List informed her passion and expertise in the arena of gender parity in political leadership. Anne has also worked as a consultant in the non-profit and philanthropic arenas, with clients across the environmental, veterans affairs, domestic violence, and health and human service sectors. She has served as Principal Investigator on federal, state and local evaluations regarding the impact of welfare and health care reform on low-income individuals and communities. Anne and her work have been featured on CBS, CNN, NPR, Fox News, Marie Claire, Cosmopolitan, Vox, Bustle and Refinery 29, as well as numerous international and domestic articles on women and leadership. Anne holds a Ph.D. from U.C. Berkeley, an MSW from New York University, and a B.A. from Middlebury College. She lives with her husband and three children in San Francisco, California.
Aisha Wahab
Hayward City Council
Newly elected Hayward City Councilwoman Aisha Wahab is an activist and longtime Hayward resident. Prior to her run, she was an active organizer and non-profit director, who worked on the ground with people in desperate need of housing, mental health and food security services; and in the boardroom with service providers. Aisha has served on multiple non-profit boards (Abode Services, Tri-City Volunteers, and the Afghan Coalition) that focus on community — working to ensure housing for low- and extremely low-income individuals; providing programs for active seniors; encouraging immigrants to get involved in their communities through civic engagement; and supporting victims of domestic violence as they find safety and re-start their lives. Aisha was named one of San Francisco Business Times’ 2017 Most Influential Women in Business, was highlighted in San Francisco Magazine’s “The Resistance” Issue (for her community organizing), and named one of the “40 Under 40” by CSU East Bay. Aisha was awarded the Inspirational Woman of the Year by California State Assemblymember Kansen Chu, and was selected to be a part of the White House Roundtable of Afghan American Leaders as well as being invited to the White House's Annual NowRoz event. Aisha earned her B.A. in Political Science, and received her Masters in Business Administration at California State University, East Bay.

KQED Evening News Anchor
Kim is KQED News’ evening anchor and the Friday host of Forum. She reports on a wide range of issues affecting the Bay Area and interviews newsmakers, local leaders and innovators. Kim started her career in public radio at KQED as an intern with Pacific Time. When the station began expanding its local news coverage in 2010, she became a general assignment reporter, then health reporter for The California Report. Kim’s award-winning stories have included on-the-scene reporting of the 2014 Napa earthquake and a series on gun violence in Oakland. Her work has been recognized by the Radio Television Digital News Association, the Society of Professional Journalists and the Asian American Journalists Association.
