The other day, I went to visit some friends in Petaluma, only to find that one half of an otherwise normal married couple was willing to trap me in a car for several minutes, while the other half ran around getting their front lawn Christmas decorations inflated.
In the end, it looked like this, and despite my clapping and squealing with delight over the finished product, they both immediately apologized for "not having Santa on the roof yet."
This lawn is a manifestation of the madness that consumes people who love the holidays. And you know what? It is infectious. That lawn you see above was surrounded on all sides by other people's lawns that were equally strewn with insane festive crap.
This particular street in Petaluma -- along with every other decorated street in America -- is getting a real run for its money however, in the form of Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard (a.k.a. married love's greatest hope since Chris Pratt and Anna Faris broke up). These two don't just embrace the holidays, they allow themselves to be utterly consumed by them, to the degree that the couple now apparently has a matching outfit for every day of December.
They've been doing this for literally years:
In 2014, Samsung had the good sense to take advantage of the Shepard-Bell holiday-based enthusiasm, and gave them a commercial that had almost nothing whatsoever to do with Samsung:
This year, when camera-shy Sia had to put together a video for "Santa's Coming For Us," guess who she asked to be in the video?
And, of course, Bell has a seasonal movie of her own now:
Unbelievably, Kristen and Dax are actually opening up their home (and Christmas sweater collection) as part of a charity fundraiser for Opening Act. And with this couple's track record, who wouldn't want to hang out and bake cookies with these people?
